The International Association of Gerontological
Societies
was founded in Liège, Belgium in July 1950.
It later became the International
Association of Gerontology (IAG) and, by decision of the Council in 2004, it is
now the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG)
Missions
IAGG promotes the highest levels of achievement of gerontological research and training worldwide. IAGG interacts with other international, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations in the promotion of gerontological interests globally and on behalf of its member associations. IAGG pursues these activities with a view of promoting the highest quality of life and wellbeing of all people as they experience ageing at an individual and societal level.
Organization
IAGG is an umbrella organization bringing together national gerontological
and geriatrics associations from five regions around the world:
"Africa • Asia/Oceania • Europe • North America • South America - To advance the
Organization's activities, Standing Committees work on issues such as United Nations,
Gerontechnology, Student Organizations, Collaborating Centers, Elder Abuse, Nursing
Homes, Great Names in Gerontology and Geriatrics.
Members
At present, 71 national societies from 64 different countries are represented.
With a combined membership of more than 40 000 practitioners.
